The Honourable Michael Wilson, former Ambassador to the United States, will be in London to speak at Vanier's 3rd Annual Breakfast - Canada's Mental Health Crisis - the Social and Economic Cost. Following his early career as an investment executive on Bay Street,Mr. Wilson was elected to the House of Commons in 1979 as a Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament. He served in various portfolios, including Minister of Finance and Minister of International Trade, in the governments of Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney. After returning to the Royal Bank of Canada in the 1990s, he became Chairman and CEO of UBS Canada. In 2003 The Honourable Michael Wilson was appointed an officer of the Order of Canada. From 2006-2009, he served as Canadian Ambassador to the United States. Since the death of his son from depression and suicide, Mr. Wilson has been an advocate for Children’s Mental Health. All proceeds from the breakfast will go to support H.O.P.E.(Helping Other Parents Excel)A unique program run by parents for parents whose children have emotional and behavioural problems. |
